Poppy Passion
I've tried to grow poppies for years. I've never once been successful. So when I found a small family farm in Georgia growing Italian poppies, I was genuinely excited.
Italian poppies have this beautiful soft palette. Mostly pastels, creams and peaches and corals, with the occasional random burst of bright color thrown in. That's just how they grow. You don't get to choose.
They arrived as tight buds, each one still covered in a green protective casing. I had to peel that off each flower by hand before they could open. That took a few hours. It's quiet, careful work, and you have to be gentle.
Then you wait. It took about a day for them to start opening. What comes out of that tiny bud is remarkable, because the petals are huge. They get compressed into this small casing, so when they open they're crinkled and ruffled in this incredibly beautiful way. That texture you see in the image, that's not stylized. That's just what the flower looks like when it finally opens.
The whole thing took several days to put together. I have a behind-the-scenes video you can see if you scroll through the product images.
